In the field of automobile safety, Volvo has always been a veritable leader. From the invention of the three-point seat belt in 1959 to the world's first "Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt", Volvo has once again pushed automobile active safety technology to a new peak - this breakthrough technology will be first installed on the new pure electric SUV Volvo EX60 in 2026. The three-point seat belt has saved more than a million people, but modern traffic scenes are much more complicated than 60 years ago. Different body shapes, different postures, and different collision angles make it difficult for the "one-size-fits-all" design of traditional seat belts to achieve true "personalized protection". Volvo has precisely identified this point and redesigned a seat belt system that can be adapted to individual needs and situations based on more than 80,000 real accident data collected in the past 50 years.
What is a "multi-adaptive seat belt"?
The core of this seat belt system is to expand the load-limiting profile of the seat belt from the traditional 3 to more than 11, and dynamically adjust it based on real-time data.

The system can instantly select the most appropriate seat belt setting, for example:
• Larger people will receive higher tension limits in severe collisions, reducing the range of head movement.
• Smaller people will have lower tension and reduce the chance of rib fractures.

Through the analysis of sensors inside and outside the car (including radar, camera, passenger body shape sensor, seat position sensor, etc.):
• Passenger height, weight, body shape and sitting posture
• Collision angle, speed and force
• Temperature inside the car and immediate response needs

All this is done in the blink of an eye, even faster than the airbag is deployed, truly tailor-made protection plan.
This is not just a one-time safety equipment, but a safety ecosystem that will be upgraded at any time. Volvo promises to continuously update the system algorithm through OTA (Over-the-Air) technology, and the overall protection strategy will be continuously optimized as more driving and collision data of car owners are collected.

What's more worth mentioning is that this seat belt will be seamlessly integrated with Volvo's airbags, passenger detection, and driver assistance systems to provide "integrated active and passive protection" and greatly reduce the risk of secondary injuries.

Safety Center Upgraded Again to Create an Industry Benchmark
This new seat belt has completed multiple rounds of testing in the "Safety Laboratory" at Volvo's headquarters in Sweden. This facility just entered its 25th anniversary in 2024 and can simulate almost all types of real car accident scenes, which is more stringent than regulatory requirements and is also the foundation for Volvo's long-term leadership in industry safety standards.
In today's pursuit of technology and self-driving technology, most car manufacturers focus on "how to make the car drive itself", but Volvo always insists on one thing: "No matter who you are, you must survive an accident." This time, the "multi-adaptive seat belt" brings "personalized safety" from theory to reality. This is not only a technological innovation, but also the greatest respect for all passengers in the car - regardless of age, gender, and body shape. Future automotive technology cannot just be cool, but must be truly responsible for life. And Volvo is still the car manufacturer that cares most about your "survival".
